2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.
|
|

The modifications planned and detailed below
were never made because within 1500 miles, mounted as seen
above (without any modifications) the luggage rack broke on
both sides.

Trunk
angle and distance from seat are too great.
The 'side plates fit perfectly to the fender
bolts and are very well made and pretty. But the angle
of the sissy bar support is greater than ideal for my Kawasaki
2002 Vulcan 500. It appears to be about 20 to 25 degrees. The
solution is, I think, simple: drill one or two more mounting
holes on the sissy bar attacher to change the angle of the
luggage rack closer to parallel. |

|
But the angle of the sissy bar support is
greater than ideal for my Kawasaki 2002 Vulcan 500 causing
luggage rack to be 25 degrees off level and the sissy bar
back of the trunk to be 3 to 4 inches too far back..
|

It appears to be about 24 to 30 degrees.
Drill one or two more mounting holes on the sissy bar
vertical attachment brackets to change the angle of the
luggage rack closer to horizontal.

The position and angle of the 'Sissy Bar'
back of the trunk is too great to make it safe for a passenger
(a sissy?) to use it. New lower side plate holes to move the
side plate forward by 1.75" will help. New holes in the upper
part of the side plate will bring the rack back to horizontal
and also help by moving the top of the trunk forward about
1.5" for a combined
forward movement of about 3.25" at the top. Not ideal
but better.. |
Sissy bar mounts and welds may prevent
correct location of needed new holes by home installer.

My
calculations may be off and, hopefully, there is an easier solution
that you (in technical) know about or can dream up. Ideal, of course,
would be to send me the correct side plates for the Kawasaki Vulcan
500 with a sissy bar mount angle closer to 90 degrees. Even better
would be about 100 degrees with the mount holes at 90 thus moving the
trunk / sissy bar back closer to the back of the passenger seat.
